Ömer Turan: Professor of History

Ömer Turan teaches Balkan History, Minorities in the Balkans, Ottoman Chronicles and Ottoman Turkish. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Ankara University and his second M.Sc. and PhD degrees from Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He worked as a research assistant at Ankara University between 1983-1997. He works since 1997 at METU Department of History and is an associate professor since 2000. His research interests cover late and and post-Ottoman periods Balkan history, the Turkish minorities in the Balkans, Protestant missionary activities in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey, 18th and 19th centuries Ottoman Chronicles and Contemperory Turkish History. Among his publications are TheTurkish in Bulgaria, 1878-1908 (Ankara, Türk Tarih Kurumu, 1998), and Avrasya'da Misyonerler (Ankara, 2002).
